(08-29) 13:51 PDT SAN FRANCISCO — As many as 11 pedestrians, including a young child, were injured today by a motorist who drove around San Francisco running people down before he was arrested, authorities said.
Eight of the 11 injured were hospitalized, three in critical condition and five in serious condition, police and firefighters said.
The child, whose age was not available, was one of two struck by a sport-utility vehicle in the 3500 block of California Street in the Richmond District around 1 p.m., authorities said. Both were critically injured.
Two people were seriously hurt at Bush and Pierce streets and one person was seriously injured at Bush and Buchanan streets, police said. One person suffered minor injuries in an incident at 1850 Fillmore Street.
Another person was hit at California and Laurel streets; the extent of that victim’s injuries was unclear.
Two other people suffered minor injuries when they were hit at Pine at Divisadero streets, and another two were hit and suffered minor injuries at Divisadero and Bush Street.
Fire Lt. Mindy Talmadge said Mayor Gavin Newsom had been notified and was coordinating the response with the command post at Spruce and California streets. All the critically injured have been taken to San Francisco General Hospital.
Police Sgt. Neville Gittens confirmed the motorist was taken into custody, but had no further details.

After a weekend of eating almost nothing but corn on the cobb, my toilet time is filled with blood delights, my half patched root canal came un glued, my mouth is in the worst pain. I still can’t get those little skin things out of my teeth, floss is uneffective. Yet, I’d give anything for one more cobb sprinkled with lemon pepper. ANYTHING.
God, please let corn digest, thanks, MAD EX.
