Sonic Youth rules. OCMA says up yours members.
So I heard Sonic Youth was playing at OCMA and I got super excited. I know a lot of people that work at the museum and I’ve been a member there for a few years. Like any other huge event every one knew there would be a line to get in. Being a member always meant free admission to the museum so the idea of a free Sonic Youth show sounded pretty sweet. I got there an hour early to meet up with friends and stand in the member’s line. After about 45 min the door guy started telling us they were going to let us in right after will call. Will call? Did we here him right? He must have been joking. Why would the museum let people that just bought tickets online go in before members? Members that have given twice the amount of money to the museum then a ticket cost. Members, some for years, that have been there for every opening to support the museum, not just people who hear about one show and buy a ticket online for a lousy $30. Well it turns out members aren’t as important I guess. So after will call was let in we finally got in to see the show. Sonic Youth was amazing. I had forgotten how great a band they are. The sound was great, the lighting amazing. We ended up getting onto the roof to watch most f the show so we didn’t have to look over the heads of the 300 people standing in the court yard to see the show. They didn’t play many hits and I kinda liked that. I didn’t need to hear Bull in the Heather any more. Kroq took care of that for me in the late 90s. After the show everyone hung out and drank expensive beer and cheap wine. It was a good time. I think there was art there too.
