honda loves long beach

Yesterday (Saturday 3/24/07) I was in Belmont Shore heading down 2nd street looking for a place to park. All the meters were covered as if they were getting ready for a parade or something. I didn’t realize it until I got out and read the covered meters. They were all pre-paid for the day by the local Honda dealer, this part of their “its on us campaign”. I’ve seen a dozen or so lame TV spots that I usually end up mocking and yelling at the TV when they finish. However I was kinda impressed that actually went out and supported that concept on a local level.
25 people in blue shirts covered all 473 meters on and off of 2nd street. Once they covered all the meters with blue hoods (that read “its on us”) the team scattered Belmont Shore opening doors, carried bags, loaded cars and even watched dogs as people went in to their favorite coffee house.
I was visiting my wife at her store when we saw this happening, I was walking around looking for one of the blue shirts to ask them to change the light bulb in the awning that hangs outside her store. I must of just missed them b/c the only person I could find was a CSULB volleyball player asking me to buy ticket to send them to Italia for a tournament.
good story phil.
maybe honda can lead us to rise up against the tyrany of the overnight parking situation in long beach.
