The Wait Is Over

Finally after a long summer off the EPL (Barclay’s English Premier League) is starting its 07/08 season. I now have something to fill the void in my life. I’m looking forward to long lunches at the Auld Dubliner here in downtown Long Beach during the week while watching FSC on Saturday and Sunday.

The summer was fun watching Team USA win the Gold Cup over Mexico not to mention un-defeated! Then only to be demolished in the Copa America Tournament the next week.

Also, It was awesome to see Beckham play his first game for the Los Angeles Galaxy to a sold out house vs Chelsea FC! This was a game I will remember for the rest of my life. I don’t think I will have a chance to see Chelsea FC play live ever again.

Finally, SuperLiga has been amazing so many good players all playing there hearts out. You can catch the next Galaxy game in the tournament on 8/15 vs Dallas FC.

But now the waiting is over. The Arsenal boys play their first game vs Fullam FC on Sunday AM (LA time). Too bad for me FSC has decided to play the Manchester United game instead. The silver lining is that Carlos Tevez will be playing his first game for Man U. Just coming off a trade from West Ham United. Now that Tevez is playing for Man U. I’m pretty sure that they have a wrap on 1st place. How ever Arsenal have battled back when down a goal or two. I hope we can give them a run for the title. Now, LETS GO GUNNERS!

OFF THE CHARTS: The song-poem story.

A fascinating documentary in the style of Errol Morris, Off the Charts chronicles the fearless types who, via advertisements in the backs of magazines, send heartfelt poems (and a check for $295) to be made into hit songs — hopefully. What few of them realize is that of the estimated 200,000 songs that have been concocted by this mail-order method, not one has ever been a hit. The songs on here are so crazy Awesome. Shit songs about kung foo bicycles and Priscilla Presley. I loved it.

Speaking of Robots: Voltron coming to the Big Screen.

Posted by madex in entertainment, whateves on August 10th, 2007 @ 3:40 pm

TRANSFORMERS did well, so Hollywood dug in the trash of old robot cartoon epics and found Voltron. New Regency has signed a deal to produce VOLTRON into a live-action movie, Rupurt Murdoch will advertise the film on myspace until your eyes bleed, and Fox will put it in theaters. The film would be about a post-apocalyptic Earth after an alien invasion. Five survivors, team up with lion-shaped robots and form Voltron to fight off the alien invaders.

But will the robot lions have lips?

Stop everything that you are doing and get tickets to one, or all three shows coming up in the next months for Puppet Up. I saw them perform in Orange County a few months back with Tarasaidthat and Therealsimon and it was the best thing ever. It is the Jim Henson Company doing inprove comedy, and there is nothing G rated about it. It was incredible and every show is different, they never do the same thing twice.

Avalon Theater in Hollywood

Upcoming dates:
Friday, August 17th
8:00 PM
(doors will open at 7:00 PM)

Saturday, September 22nd
Saturday, October 20th

I am planning on getting tickets for all 3 shows. I can’t explain how rad it is to see how they do the muppets, and then to see them say the worst shit ever.

Lets band together and get a whateves.com table, standing for comedy sounds lame.

Here is my last whateves rant after I went last time:

Tonight was quite possibly the most amazing night ever, seeing Muppets live on stage, and how they do it was amazing. Also amazing was seeing a rapping opossum giving aliens aids, Old men cumming while watching COPS the TV show while making sex cakes. ZOmbies at a Yorba Linda McDonalds, Hot dogs singing about putting things up their asses, and of course the church of michael jackson. I laughed so hard, I almost lost my voice. When this comes back, it is mandatory that you go. Brian Henson (Jim Henson’s son) was there and all the main puppeteers Minus Frank Oz (miss piggy). I really wish more people came, on sex cake.

If you haven’t seen Flight of the Concords yet you should jump on it. It’s on HBO sundays at 10:30 pacific. I know, I don’t have HBO either but I go to my girlfriends house and she does, she’s rich. Well she’s not rich but she doesn’t owe $30k in student loans and $17k for a car and so on. If your debt free you might as well be rich, well ok at least free. Moving on, this show is great. If you get over the whole uber-hipster style and get to the comedy of it you’ll be rolling on the floor. They post whole episodes online so if you’re bored at work here’s something to look at. Oh, plus they have an EP out on Sub-Pop. Plus the hetero man love makes me miss Beard.
