U.S. International Friendlies vs England, Spain and Argentina

I started a new thread thanks to the suggestion of christopher.

The Mens US Soccer team has a couple of big games coming up. England, Spain and Argentina all super forces in the soccer world. This great preparation for the 2010 World Cup Qualifying match vs Barbados in June.

The first game will be at the famed Wembley Stadium vs England on May 28th. More than 1,300 tickets were sold in the U.S. Supporters Section, I’m hoping someone will dress up like Uncle Sam. Then USA faces fourth-ranked Spain at the Estadio El Sardinero in Santander, Spain on June 4 and then finally flying back home to face No. 1-ranked Argentina on June 8 at Giants Stadium, New Jersey. 46,000 pre-sale tickets have been sold for this game alone.

Check your DVR schedule and ESPN360.com for air times. They might be wacky kick offs due to the timezones.

Coach Bradley also named his 33 man pool, most of the players have been playing in Europe this past season and the ones that are playing domestically have all-star qualities (and yes MadEx… Landy Cakes will be playing).

So to recap:
May 28 USA vs England at Wembley Stadium in England (International Friendly)
June 4 USA vs Spain at El Sardinero in Santander in Spain (International Friendly)
June 8 USA vs Argentina at Giants Stadium in New Jersey (International Friendly)
June 15 USA vs Barbados at The Home Depot Center, California (World Cup Qualifying)

Who wants to go to the June 15 game?

Full 33 man pool after the jump, but also check out the latest Ad campaign for the USA Mens Soccer team.

DancePartyJulie’s Featured Awesomeness Installation 2: RECOUNT

Posted by dancepartyjulie in whateves on May 16th, 2008 @ 3:09 pm

If you don’t know what RECOUNT is, I would imagine that your eyes have been gauged out.  HBO is pushing this film hard and with good reason.  I read the script in November and Danny Strong’s retelling of what happened when the Bush administration stole the presidency is so compelling, I was surprised that this shit actually happened. Considering it is the story of how politics and politicians failed, there existed the extreme potential for this script to read like paste.  Honestly, I couldn’t put it down leading me to question if my own political perspective biased me to really like it and consider it a fair account. There is a lot of press about how different players and the parties are pissed about how they are portrayed. I am surprised that the left is just as loud as the right on this even though most of the source material came from court transcripts and interviews of the actual participants.  I obtained a screener and here are a few reasons why to watch it aside from the obvious timing and significance: LAURA DERN as Katherine Harris is fucking phenomenally hilarious right down to the make-up. The guy who wrote it is best known for his role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and is not quite 5 feet tall. The Hurricane jokes. Bush and Gore are surprisingly absent from the film. And finally you should see it for the obvious reasons.

Premieres on May 25th on HBO or at my house - whenever…

flat advice to Whereves riders…

Posted by Robonaut in whateves on May 16th, 2008 @ 2:53 pm

I was bummed to hear about Klau getting a flat and having to take the bus home. Here are some tips to help all Whereves riders:

So here’s the thing with flats, you can fix them in under 1 min with a little practice. You just need the tools and a new tube.

1st you need to carry a few things with you. It’s cool, you have a messenger bag anyway. If not get one of these. These are $10 at REI and hold everything you’ll need for a quick tire change. They tuck into your drink cage and you’re good to go. Dont’ have a drink cage? Get one dummy.

2nd here is a quick list of what to put in your new cage rocket:

-spare tube ($3.00 at Performance)

- Tire tools

First take your wheel off. You should have a quick release on there but if you have some old vintage fixie you’ll have to figure out what box end wrench to take with you on rides. It’s ok, that’s going to fit in your pack too. When your wheel is off you wedge one end of these under the tire and hook the hook end onto one spoke. That will hold it in place while you wedge the other tool in and peal off the tire. Try it a few times. It’s easy.

once one side of your tire is off put a little air in the new tube and replace the flat tube. Then pop the tire back on over it. Make sure there are no bumps or that you don’t pinch the tube. Work it around a little Indian Burn style. There you got it.

Now you’re going to need some air in that tire. We all know pumps are great for penises but save your self some time on the road and get a C02 inflater. They are cheap, and one cartridge will pump up two road tires. You can even get one of these sweet ones with a multi tool on it. Multi toolls are great for tightening your shit if it loosens up on a ride.

So pack all your junk in your cage rocket, maybe throw in your cell phone and a condom. You’ll figure it out.

Fuck yeah, THE HAPPENING!!!

Dude, I was over M. NIght Shamalongadingdong after SIGNS, but I am back on board for his gruesome new movie. At first the first trailer looked like, “OH, what is going on, oh, whats the twist” but this new trailer is like, “of fuck your dad just got run over by a lawn mower, let me stab your face to make you feel better”.

Watch the RED TAG trailer over at Must watch.

*update*

The film is already getting horrible reviews. This review tears M. Night shamalongadingdong a new asshole.

  • “The Happening” is a terrible, terrible movie. I mean, it’s bad on an epic scale. It’s so bad that I can’t possibly tell you how bad it is without understating the point or making it sound like I’m picking on the film. But let me stress: this is not pent-up Shyamalan aggression or a desire to see him fail. This is bad in a jaw-dropping “they can’t really be serious, can they?” kind of way. If you’re dreading the Shyamalan trademark twist-ending, you can breathe a sigh of relief. There’s no twist whatsoever. But there’s also no ending. I won’t ruin it any further by talking about what’s not there, but prepare to feel very, very cheated and figure out in advance what consultation you can offer when the person next you confusedly asks, “Is that it?”

Last count of M. Nights assholes is 5, he has 5 assholes. Better luck next time shamalamdingdong.

Panic In The Streets of London

Rangers FC Zenit UEFA Final Riot

UEFA Cup final was played on Wednesday 4/14. Rangers FC (Scotland) vs FC Zenit (Russia) the game was played at a neutral venue in Manchester City Centre (North Manchester, England). FC Zenit beat Rangers FC 2-0 then the riots started.

The Scots are loony as is… THEN add the Ranger FC fan factor… THEN put a dozen pints in them… THEN have their team loose in the finals. They ripped up the city, beat down cops, fought and broke anything in their drunken way. One senior officer was hit so hard his electronic earpiece was left embedded in his head and had to be removed by doctors. Another policeman was bottled over the head and another lost his front teeth after being head-butted by a Rangers hooligan.

Across the city centre this morning streets were strewn with rubbish, cans of beer and broken glass after an estimated 100,000 Rangers fans descended on Manchester for the big game.

Whatever happened to loosing with dignity and showing sportsmanship? Oh who am I kidding this is soccer! Fuck dignity and sportsmanship.

Video below is of the riots.

Last night Whereeves Bike Ride was bumpin’. We had record numbers show up, over 20 peeps showed and we peddled down to Hollywood. Right in the middle of tourist hell, there is a Snow White Bar. The whole inside is Disney style renderings of snow white and the dwarfs. The beer there is HUGE, and its meant to make you feel like a dwarf.

Poor Ktlau got a flat, Billy offered to carry Ktlau’s bike on his back, it was some serious dedication to the ride.

But, ktlau took the bus home. Hope he made it home ok.

After that we took a turn for a more classy refined place to hoot and holla, Jumbos Clown Room.

Check out the rest of the night in pictures after the jump.
