Sigh… Never A Dull Moment
My dog Klaus LOVES to play. He really love to fetch, that is the Weimaraner in him coming out. Today while fetching a Frisbee he twisted kinda weird, yelped and was limping. After inspecting his leg and joints I found nothing wrong however Klaus quickly let me know I missed a spot… his foot (paw).
It just didn’t feel right… it didn’t have the tension like the other paw did. I had a gut feeling it was broken and with a quick trip to the vet it was confirmed… broken.
The x-ray from the vet sent chills down my spine. Just seeing the broken bone made me feel for the little guy. The good news is, its not a major bone and they wont have to operate or put pins in him (My last Weimaraner was hit by a van and had pins in his leg). Since this is in his paw and he has 4 other bones sharing support they can wrap it in a cast and let it heal. Of course the catch is I have a 60+ lbs dog that has to stay off his feet (I don’t know how I’m going to do this).
Below is a picture of my brave Klausy with his green cast. Now, he looks like a pirate dog with his little limp and peg leg. We go back to the vet next week for a check up and a clean cast. Until then I’m nurse Phil.
