Finger Banging Our Youth, “Follow them Size 5’s”
While we’ve seen the Kurt Cobain shoe disaster, and Simon posted about bastard Elvis discount shoes, and we’ve known about the back to the future shoe release for sometime now, it actually just came out.
But we haven’t seen this far a stretch in adult footwear from 80’s child movies before. Sure this sorta hack shit comes out at Payless Shoesource for infants when a film is released, I’m sure you can get your 3 year old some kick ass Dark Knight sneakers right now, but in 25 years for adults that shouldn’t be the case. I’m talking about Puma’s Goonies Shoes.

Who is going to buy these? This is the most chopped up looking, piece of crap I’ve ever seen.
Awesome burlap pull ups. How cute they incoprated the cartoon logo of Sloth and the kids with Data, Oh Data running over cause he’s always late.
One eye willie on the inside heel, that’ll be rubbed off in one wearing.
It looks to me that there are no shoelaces, and the DISC BLAZE part of these shoes is like snowboard bindings.
Oh, and it comes with a barf bag.
Are we cannibalizing ourselves? Are we out of idea’s in our brainstorming meetings? Are we cashing in on the idea that its never too late to have a good childhood? We are doing a disservice to the future generations by re feeding them our nostalgia and soon we’ll have a MAD COW CULTURAL SOCIETY DISASTER.

This is not the first time I (we) have seen memories of my (our) youth re-purposed into products/ad of the present day. I’m not sure how I feel about this, I mean when its done right, makes since and pays homage. The Goonies shoes above look like weirdness. It’s like all the leftover parts from the shoe factory put together to make a frankenshoe.
Back in May I found a pair of “RAD” inspired shoes from Vans. They were not an explosion of randomness on your feet. Check out the post and photo here:

But back to the topic of finger banging our youth… has anyone see the new JC Pennies Breakfast Club ad? What were they thinking? Was the Ads geared toward parents that grew up in the 80’s? I mean do kids even know or care about the Breakfast Club?
