Hipster Mom doesn’t know the facts. High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Posted by madex in whateves on September 19th, 2008 @ 11:49 am

I have the day off, I took to try and flip channels on my TV. A lost art now that I depend only on my DVR. I saw this commercial with in 2 min of my couch potato venture and quickly turned off the TV. Did I really just see a commercial with a hipster mom getting the smack down over High Fructose Corn Syrup?

Click the Corn to see the Commercial.

It freaked me out that one, Hipster mom would even bring up nutrition at a fucking birthday party. Two, that she let that other woman rail road her to where she didn’t have any come back, she could have said,” Well your kids are fat”. Three, that the corn giant had to produce a commercial to make obese people feel ok about it. I hate propaganda shit, the only reason this commercial exists is because and industry needs to make their product seem like its OK. If cigarette companies could rail road hipster mom they would. If your a reader, you know that I love me some corn. So, I took an hour reserching all this fun corn stuff. Click around if you feel like it.

that commercial is pure bullshit. high fructose corn syrup is pure evil as a liquid. it’s in everything at the supermarket nowadays. it’s ridiculous! thank you for posting this. look at the ingredients of the things your buying. if you don recognize the ingredients or they have any sort of syrup or fructose then put it back and walk on. you’ll be thinner and healhthier.

Diet rich in simple sugars (such as fructose corn syrup) is detrimental to health, causing obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. If a cancer already exists in your body (and cancer cells consume ONLY simple sugars), its growth rate may be accelerated. So there you go. Drink that Commercial Actress Mom killing your kids!

the part that gets me about this advertising campiagn (there are more of them than just the hipster mom) is that the Con HFCS mom alwways says “well, YOU know what they say about HFCS” and the pro HFCS mom jumps in, “What, that it’s all natral and comes from corn…etc etc”

No, that’s NOT what THEY say about HFCS. The latest studies are finding that things that act like sugar, but aren’t sugar (including sugar substitutes in DIET sodas) actually wind up making you FATTER because your body doesn’t know how to process those things. It’s the same story with butter and butter substitutes. Replacing fatty things with lots of chemicals isn’t good for you either, and may be worse for you.

Moral of the story, if you want to eat sweets, eat sweets made with better ingredients and eat less of them. Stick to Coke hencho en Mexico, it uses cane sugar instead of HFCS, as do Hansen’s sodas. Also eat real butter, just eat less of it.

Also, it just does not taste as good either. When I was younger, a cold Coke tasted really good. While I quit drinking soda in my teens for health reasons, I would treat myself occasionally. At some point, I noticed the taste was thick and heavy and clingy. I thought maybe it was the plastic containers, but then I read about hfcs and figured that was the reason.

plastic does influence the taste of soda a bit.

the glass bottle added with the natural sugar used in mexican coke = delicious
