Indie 103.1 iPhone App – Coming soon.
For those of you who are just as upset as I am at the loss of a good radio station. Good news was announced, an iPhone app is on its way, it’ll work on the 3g network and you’ll be able to listen anywhere you take your phone with you. Also, some of the Dj’s are going to continue their radio show for the time being. Sadly Jonesy wasn’t on the list, but Rock class with Henry Rollin’s will continue.

Not to be a Debbie Downer here, but in case you missed the piece in the Weekly, the Indie 103 that’s currently streaming on the internets is not the Indie you know and love, but simply their back catalog on random. Entravision fired all of the people who made Indie and is now trying to hijack the “Indie 103″ brand. Fuck them, don’t support them.
The indiecurrently streaming on the air is indie with really cool music and at least 1/2 of the original DJs.
Entravision owns Indie 103 station and brand. So they cannot hijack something they already own. tehy are just trying to reinvent indie online because what is really broken is the measuring systems that push station to play only hits after hits untill we are bored and not any new music.

Entravision is the one who pushed their baby too far. They are the ones who made them play hits. I’m with Justin.
There was a bit on this in the Weekly. They interviewed Sovel and Henry Rollins. The people who made the station what it is we pretty much shanghaied with only a few days notice. They dude doing the morning show on that Thursday found out that it was his last show during the show. Everyone has to clear out and were then locked out. I forget who it was, but there we guests who were supposed to be on Jonesy that day who showed up at the station only to be turned away. And that message that was playing on about them being rebels and taking it to the internet – it’s total bullshit (or disingenuous in the extreme). The corporate side made the decision to go Spanish because the ad revenues are higher, put they also know Indie 103 is popular and has a following, so they are trying to find a way to milk them, too. Rollins said he’d stick around an do his show (unpaid) because he liked doing it, but according to him he’s only recorded three, he doesn’t know it they’ll ever be played, and they haven’t gotten back to him. Now you can say that Entravision “owns” Indie, and they do own the name, but the people who created the station no longer have anything to do with it. It’s like if the Studio heads took away final cut from a director, recut his movie into a steaming pile of shit (which they do all the time) but tried to sell the movie as The Brave and Unfettered Director’s Cut to sell it to the public.
Trust me, I was all about promoting the internet stream, I played it in my store, told people about it, etc. It was cool. They I read the article and felt tricked. So fuck them for pulling the station from the air and then having the balls to act like it was an act of defiance.
