When I was a kid I remember going to the candy store (not CVS, Target or 7-11) It was a legit candy store. Candy was displayed in big apothecary jars and in old apple barrels. I loved to get the Sunkist Fruit Gems, they are/were round jelly candy’s with a crystal like sugar coating. But now and again I would look for something new. This is when I would buy something from the Ferrara Pan company.

The other day I found a store that sells Ferrara Pan candy… you know: Lemonheads, Alexander The Grape, Johnny Apple Treats, Cherry Clan, Boston Baked Beans, Jaw Busters, Atomic Fire Balls, etc. All of the above candy was a staple in any given Halloween. However, I noticed the candy company Ferrara Pan changed a few of the names (except Boston Baked Beans, Jaw Busters & Atomic Fire Balls) but kept the flavors the same. I can understand changing the Cherry Clan graphic, I can see how that one could be a bit offensive but why change only a few of the names? Was there a problem with the name Alexander The Grape? Did Johnny Apple Treats cause a problem with other apple flavored candies?

And this brings me to my next issues. Why did all the new names take after Lemon Heads? Alexander The Grape became Grape Heads, Johnny Apple Treats became Apple Heads and Cherry Clan became Cherry Heads. The naming is not as creative as the originals. Sigh, I want my childhood back

I posted a while back about David Beckham and Feist appearing on Sesame Street. Well, tonight I found out a few more names that will be appearing on this season.

I’m excited to see everyone on this list: Jonah Hill, Feist, Heidi Klum, Neil Patrick Harris, Randy Jackson, Will Arnett, Jack Black, David Beckham, LL Cool J, Jessica Alba, Molly Shannon and Jenny McCarthy

I can’t wait to see Heidi Klum, Neil Patrick Harris (I like to call him NPH) and Will Arnett.

Between recording Yo Gabba Gabba and now Sesame Street  you would think I have children.

Why have a hand with 10 fingers when you can have an arm with one giant thumb?

So the other day I went to visit my parents. It was a typical visit. Mom offered to make me food my dad told me about the neighbors all was well and normal. Then it was time to leave, I get in my car and I notice something in the back seat. After a closer look I realize its 4 banker’s boxes FULL of my stuff from when I was a kid. I turned to ask my dad why he put it in my car and this is the reply he gave me. “This is your shit, keep it at your house”.

Now let me rewind a little. Around 1987ish my parents had some custom cabinets installed in the kitchen and living room. My dad gave one really deep cabinet to me and my sister. He told us we could put whatever we wanted inside. So… I did. And well… I never threw anything away. The 4 banker’s boxes were the random contents of my life from 1987 until 1996.

I did go through the boxes and threw away most of contents. It mainly consisted of Mad Magazines, Sports Illustrates, ice hockey and baseball cards, cassette tapes, TONS of hats, pictures of me from my first school dance and team pictures of me on the HS baseball team and just… stuff.

I decided to go through it and take pictures of a few things that I though were interesting or worth showing. Anyway I present to you PSmyNameIsPhil’s Time Capsule

Earlier this month they announced that MTV and FOX are going to remake THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW as a made-for-tv movie. Now, I find out that remakes of ROCK N’ ROLL HIGH SCHOOL and VALLEY GIRL are also in the works. Really.

Who the fuck are making these decisions?

Probably the same people who turned THE BREAKFAST CLUB into a fucking JC Pennys commercial.

Check out the Kurt Cobain shoes from Converse. They are apart of Converses Specia Collection, the collection consists of Chuck Taylor All Stars, Jack Purcell’s and One Stars. All inspired by Kurt Cobain. The only decent pair in the collection are the plain signature ones. They look warn and… grungy (sorry for the pun I couldn’t resist). Other shoes have drawings and lyrics written over the shoes.

After all is said and done the concept of the shoes sucks, but in my opinion its not as bastardized as bad as the Goonies pair. At least they kept true/classic Converse shoes and added a Kurt Cobain edge to them. It’s hard adding anything to a classic, the reason why we love them is b/c they are simple. When you start adding a bunch of thing to a simple shoe is becomes something else… IE snowboard binding on the Goonies shoes.

I will go on the record by saying that when I was a kid (as still today) I don’t like wearing new shoes. I hate how new Chuck Taylors look so bright, fresh and clean… I would walk around trying to scuff them up a bit. I think this signature pair could be cool… sans the signature.

This past weekend the wife was out of town with the girls. That really means one thing: I eat like total shit. Usually I eat fruit, some chicken, vegetables, soda, some crackers, more fruit and some more soda. Somewhere there’s some cheese in the mix too.

Is it time we started a tattoo catagory?

It’s 74°, sunny, clear skys on this Saturday afternoon. I’m inside with Klaus (my dog) and his broken leg listening to Modonna working on artwork. I’m finding it hard to concentrate (I keep looking out my window) and no on is on AIM to distract me.

I woke up extra early (6:45 am) so excited to watch Arsenal FC play Juventus in the Emirates Cup. I’m sad to say we lost. 0-1. I hope we have a better result tomorrow when we play the La Legua Champions Real Madrid.

Ok, enough rambling… back to work.

Last nights challenge on Project Runway was to: Go out into the city and photograph the inspiration for their next design. The photos they came back with were really cool. Alot of them were abstract. Also, guest Judge: Sandra Bernhard.

This weekend I officially broke it off with Ralph’s and started shopping at Fresh & Easy. This new market makes it easy for me to shop for all my food. The store is smaller then a tradition market but seems to have everything I need. It is clean (this is huge on my list) and the meats don’t look like they have been sitting out for days. They don’t have a deli or a butcher but that is ok with me. The only thing that I have to get used to is the fruit and veggie section. The fruits and veggies are pre-bundled in bags so you can’t pick and choose by hand. But on a positive note, no one is touching your food (again back to the clean point).

Everyone that works there seems to be a bit on the young side and in positive spirits. They offer a lot of Fresh & Easy brand products and they don’t taste generic. Also, they have been sending me coupons. A months worth at a time. They are good for a week and deduct on your total bill not on individual items.

If you get a chance check a store out. They are popping up all of Los Angeles. Find a Fresh & Easy Market.

so I updated the wordpress back end from 2.0.1 to 2.6. mostly it went smooth there was som nonsens with the categories however most of the stuff is behind the scenes. readers shouldent notice any change. posters will notice a new “dashboard” mainly I did the update so I could use the new wordpress iPhone app. it’s pretty sweet and I am posting with it as we speak. if you are a contributor and have an iPhone, go to the app store and download the app and let the mobile blogging begin!
